
Dr. Amber Mahan is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in neuropsychological evaluations for adult and geriatric patients. She has extensive experience with a variety of neurological and neurodegenerative conditions, including various types of dementia, mild cognitive impairment, movement disorders, stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and more.
Dr. Mahan earned her Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology with academic distinction from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She has completed specialized training in Neuropsychology, including a two-year APPIC-accredited postdoctoral residency under the supervision of Dr. Kristi Husk at Mountainview Clinical Psychology. Her pre-doctoral internship was completed at Geisinger Medical Center in Clinical Neuropsychology, an APA-accredited program, where she trained in outpatient neuropsychological evaluations, multidisciplinary dementia clinic evaluations, and inpatient rehabilitation at Encompass Health in Pennsylvania.
Previously, Dr. Mahan trained at the UCLA Longevity Center in geriatric neuropsychology and cognitive rehabilitation and served as a memory trainer in the UCLA Memory Care program. She also completed an advanced practicum in Neuropsychology with Dr. Kristi Husk at Mountainview Clinical Psychology during her graduate studies. Additionally, she worked as a psychometrician in neuropsychology for adult and geriatric patients in various settings, including private practice and neurology centers.
Dr. Mahan is highly passionate about neuropsychology and is dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care to her patients. She values working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and aims to make every patient feel welcomed and understood. Dr. Mahan plans to obtain board certification in Clinical Neuropsychology.

Talk with your treating provider (usually PCP or neurologist) about your concerns and ask them to send a referral to Dr. Mahan. Once the referral is received, Dr. Mahan and/or Desert Rose staff will reach out to you to schedule an appointment and answer any questions you may have.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for your appointment to check in and complete necessary paperwork (if not already done so). To save time, please complete your paperwork prior to your appointment.
Depending on the appointment, it could take anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours. Please call our office to verify how long to plan for.
Please bring your driver's license, insurance card(s), glasses, hearing aids, and any snacks you would like to eat. Filtered water is available in office, but feel free to bring coffee or other non-alcoholic beverages.
If you are able to do so, please fill out the paperwork emailed to you ahead of time. If that is something you cannot do, we can help fill this out while in person. Otherwise, please try to have a restful night of sleep before your evaluation.
Yes, please do! We value input from people who you trust and who know you well. Please do not bring any pets with you to the appointment unless they are a service animal.
Dr. Mahan does not conduct forensic evaluations; however, she may be able to refer you to another neuropsychologist who may.
